- to search for sufficiently large surface defects (open shells, cracks, delaminations, burrs, pores, etc.) during visual-optical inspection of parts available for direct inspection and diagnostics, as well as smaller cracks using color, magnetic powder, fluorescent flaw detection and X-ray inspection;
- for inspection of large cracks, defects in structures, places of leak formation, contamination, foreign objects inside closed structures;
- to analyze the nature and determine the type of defects detected on the surface using other methods of flaw detection (acoustic, eddy current, capillary, etc.);
- for inspection of the surface of welded joints and the search for defects (pores, fistulas, inclusions, clusters of pores and inclusions, delaminations, burns, sinking between the rollers, rough scaliness, as well as places where the welding arc touches the surface of the base material).
